How much does a website cost in the UK?

What a business website costs with us, what makes it cost more, the running costs nobody mentions, and how to judge value.

The short answer: with us, from £1,395 for a custom, SEO ready business website, with a fixed quote before work starts. Pages, copywriting, shops, bookings and integrations add to it. Expect running costs too: a domain, a Wix plan if you build on Wix, and optional SEO from £150 a month.

How much does a website cost with us?

Our websites start from £1,395. That covers a focused, custom designed site with on page SEO, structured data, an enquiry form with tracking, Search Console set up and a handover. Every project gets a fixed quote in writing before any work starts.

What makes a website cost more?

  • Number of pages. A page for each service and each town you cover is good for search, and each one takes time to write and build.
  • Copywriting. Writing the words for you is often the most valuable part, and the most time consuming.
  • Online shops and bookings. Products, payments, stock, booking rules and confirmation emails all need setting up and testing.
  • Integrations and automation. Connecting forms to your inbox, calendar, CRM or accounts.
  • Branding. If you need a logo and identity first, that comes before the website.

What are the ongoing costs?

Every website has some running costs. Your domain name renews each year. A Wix Studio site needs a Wix premium plan, paid to Wix, with the level depending on features such as a shop or bookings. A hand coded site has no website builder subscription. On top of that, most businesses choose ongoing SEO, which with us starts from £150 a month.

Hand coded or Wix Studio: which is better value?

If the site’s job is to win enquiries and you rarely change it, hand coded is usually better value: it is fast and carries no builder subscription. If you need a shop, bookings, or want to edit pages yourself every week, Wix Studio is usually better value, because those features come built in. We recommend one in your quote and explain why.

Is a cheap website a false economy?

Often. A template site can look fine and still bring in nothing, because looking good and winning enquiries are different jobs. The question is not what the site costs but what it brings in. A site that wins one extra client a month usually pays for itself quickly.

What should you ask before you pay anyone?

  • Who owns the domain, the site and the content?
  • What exactly is included, and what costs extra?
  • How will I know if it is working?
  • What happens if I want to leave?
  • Can I see a real result you have delivered, with the numbers?

Questions people ask
