What a law firm website needs to do.

One page per area of law

Conveyancing, wills and probate, employment and family each need their own page that answers the questions clients actually ask.

Publish prices where required

The SRA requires published price information for certain services. Done well, it builds trust rather than putting people off.

Show who will handle the matter

Experience and qualifications of the people doing the work, and of their supervisors, are part of the transparency rules and part of trust.

Make contact feel safe

Clear routes to call, book or send a short enquiry, with a privacy notice that explains what happens to what they share.

Be found locally

Most private clients search by service and town. A strong Business Profile and area pages matter as much as the website.

Stay accurate

Content that is reviewed and dated, so nothing out of date sits on the site.

What the SRA Transparency Rules ask of your website

The SRA Transparency Rules require authorised firms that publish certain services to put cost and service information on their website. For individuals they cover residential conveyancing, uncontested probate, immigration applications and appeals (excluding asylum), summary only motoring offences, and employee claims for unfair or wrongful dismissal. For businesses they cover debt recovery up to £100,000, defending unfair or wrongful dismissal claims, and licensing applications for business premises.

Checklist

  • Price and service information for the services listed in the rules, in a clear and accessible place
  • The basis of your charges, likely disbursements and whether VAT applies
  • The experience and qualifications of the people doing the work and their supervisors
  • Your complaints procedure, including how and when to complain to the Legal Ombudsman and the SRA
  • Your SRA number and the SRA digital badge, in a prominent place
  • The words “authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority” on letterhead and emails

This is a design checklist, not legal or regulatory advice. Confirm the details that apply to you with your regulator or professional body.

Turning transparency into trust

Price pages are often written defensively. They do not have to be. A clear explanation of what is included, the stages involved and typical timescales answers the questions every prospective client has, and pages like that are exactly what Google and AI tools quote when someone asks how much a service costs.

Getting found on Google and AI search

People ask AI tools things like “how much does probate cost” or “best employment solicitor near me”. The answers draw on pages that answer the question directly, on reviews and on consistent firm details. We build all three in.

Questions firms ask us

Can you make our price pages compliant?

We build the pages and the structure the rules call for, and work from the information you provide. Your compliance officer should approve the final wording.

Where should the SRA digital badge go?

The rules say a prominent place on your website. Most firms put it in the footer of every page, which is what we do by default.

How much does a law firm website cost?

Our websites start from £1,395. A firm with several practice areas and price pages will be more, quoted upfront.
