Why isn’t my website generating enquiries?
Almost every case comes down to one of three causes, and they need different fixes:
- Not enough of the right visitors. People who need what you sell are not finding the site.
- Visitors who do not get in touch. They arrive, but nothing persuades them to call or send an enquiry.
- Something is broken. Enquiries are being sent, but they are not reaching you.
Work through them in reverse order. A broken form is the cheapest problem to fix and the most painful one to miss.
Is something on your website broken?
Before anything else, test every way a customer can contact you:
- Fill in your own contact form from your phone and check the email arrives, including in junk.
- Tap your phone number on a phone. Does it dial the right number?
- Click every “Book a call” and “Get a quote” button. Do they go somewhere?
- Check the email address on the site for typos. We have seen a single missing letter in an email link bounce every enquiry sent through it.
Are enough of the right people finding it?
Open Google Search Console, or ask whoever built your site for access. Look at which searches your site appears for. If they are mostly your business name, Google does not yet see you as a match for the services you sell.
The usual fixes are a page for each service and each main town you cover, a complete Google Business Profile, steady genuine reviews, and the same name, address and phone number everywhere. More and more buyers also ask AI tools for recommendations; our free AI visibility check shows whether they mention you.
Why do visitors leave without getting in touch?
When the visitors are there but the enquiries are not, look at the site through a stranger’s eyes:
- Is it clear in five seconds what you do, where, and for whom? If the headline is about you rather than them, rewrite it.
- Is there a reason to trust you? Reviews, real photos, named clients and results do more than any adjective.
- Is the next step obvious? One clear button and a phone number on every page.
- Is it fast on a phone? Most visitors are on one. A slow, cramped mobile page loses them before they read anything.
- Do you mention price? A “from” price or a typical range answers the question that stops most people enquiring.
A five minute self check
- Send yourself an enquiry from your phone. Did it arrive?
- Search your main service and town in a private window. Are you on page one, or in the map?
- Read your homepage headline aloud. Would a stranger know what you do and where?
- Count the ways to contact you above the fold on a phone. Is there at least one?
- Look at your Google Business Profile. Is the address current and are there recent reviews?
When should you get help, and what does it cost?
If the form works but the site is not being found, you need SEO. Our plans start from £150 a month. If people visit but do not enquire, the site itself usually needs rework; our websites start from £1,395. If you are not sure which, a free call will tell you.
What does fixing it look like?
We built Watford Welding’s new website in spring 2025, and between April and July that year search brought in one enquiry. We built it around clear service pages, area pages, a phone number on every page and proper tracking, then kept working on the SEO. From April to September 2026 it brought in 44 enquiries, 31 of them from search. Read the case study.
